Monthly Meetings
The Great Lakes Chapter meets virtually each month using the Zoom platform. Our meetings offer an engaging, open forum for members to discuss topics of interest, network with colleagues, and learn from and support one another. Everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute. Recent discussion topics have included setting goals; organizational tips and techniques; effective research planning; continuing education and professional development; favorite resources; marketing your services; and more. We periodically invite speakers to share presentations on professional-level skills and practices.
Meetings are held on Zoom the third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm Eastern time (3:00 pm Central time). Visitors and prospective members are welcome to join in and get acquainted with us. Email kbergheimer@gmail.com for an invitation to attend.
Annual Meeting
The Chapter holds its annual meeting in conjunction with the Ohio Genealogical Society Conference each spring. The next annual meeting will be held on May 1, 2025, in person 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and hybrid via Zoom. The OGS Conference will take place at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio. Guests and prospective members are welcome to attend. Members and guests typically go out to dinner together at a local restaurant after the meeting.
Field Trips
Members of the Great Lakes Chapter take periodic research trips and tours to repositories and other places of genealogical interest. In 2022, the Chapter arranged a research trip to the Allen County Public Library and a tour of the Rolland Center for Lincoln Research in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2023, members traveled to Washington, DC, where they researched together at the National Archives, the Daughters of the American Revolution Library, and the Library of Congress. Trips and tours also feature social gatherings. Future trips will be planned according to member interest and availability.
